Leonardo Boff asks Dalai Lama ...

"In a round table discussion about religion and freedom in which Dalai Lama
and myself were participating at recess I maliciously, and also with interest, asked him:

“Your holiness, what is the best religion?”

I thought he would say: “The Tibetan Buddhism” or “The oriental religions, much older than Christianity.”

The Dalai Lama paused, smiled and looked me in the eyes …. which surprised me because I knew of the malice contained in my question.

He answered:
“The best religion is the one that gets you closest to God. It is the one that makes you a better person.”

To get out of my embarrassment with such a wise answer, I asked: “What is it that makes me better?”

He responded:
“Whatever makes you
more compassionate,
more sensible,
more detached,
more loving,
more humanitarian,
more responsible,
more ethical.”
“The religion that will do that for you is the best religion”

I was silent for a moment, marveling and even today thinking of his wise and irrefutable response:

“I am not interested, my friend, about your religion or if you are religious or not.

“What really is important to me is your behavior in front of your peers, family, work, community, and in front of the world.

“Remember, the universe is the echo of our actions and our thoughts.”

“The law of action and reaction is not exclusively for physics. It is also of human relations.
If I act with goodness, I will receive goodness.
If I act with evil, I will get evil.”

“What our grandparents told us is the pure truth. You will always have what you desire for others. Being happy is not a matter of destiny. It is a matter of options.”

Finally he said:
“Take care of your Thoughts because they become Words.
Take care of your Words because they will become Actions.
Take care of your Actions because they will become Habits.
Take care of your Habits because they will form your Character.
Take care of your Character because it will form your Destiny,
and your Destiny will be your Life

… and …
“There is no religion higher than the Truth.”"

All about Google+ Ripple

All about Google+ Ripple This is a Ripple diagram of my…:

All about Google+ Ripple
This is a Ripple diagram of my post 'What is the best religion?'

Post link: https://plus.google.com/107682748671253717847/posts/axu9dYuy8Jk

What is Ripple?
1. Ripple diagram visualises how a post spreads as users share it on Google+.
2. Arrows indicate the direction of sharing.
3. Only recent public posts show up.
4. Circles within circles show a resharing sequence; large circles indicate heavy resharing.

So in this diagram +Neal Conner, +Ivan de la Jara, +Halfey Halphstein and +Hamid Dastmalchi for instance are heavy sharers.

5. Use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out the diagram.
6. Use the bottom sliding dial to specify time of share.
7. Not all users have their Ripple option activated yet but +Alex Koloskov has here explained a way round it.https://plus.google.com/102865263115020893218/posts/VM1c5Dv5URT
8. First watch this video Google Update Watch How Posts Get Shared with Ripples

Bilinguals have a problem on Google+

(2) Google: "I post mainly in English but as I have a large number of Persian followers too I have faced a big problem which I suppose is the problem other bilingual or multilingual users might as well have.

What is the problem?

1. If I post English (public) I might bore most of my Persian followers and if I post Persian (public) I might bore most of my English followers.

2. If I make two big circles (English and Persian) and I only post to one of them then only those whom I have circled can see the post and not the English or Persian speaking public.

That is, although my post is meant to be public for English or Persian speakers, it actually goes only to an audience of less than 5000 who in turn can only re-share it to a limited audience!

-By the way I know there is the translation options, but that does not help here.
Any ideas?

Why Iranians are unhappy about changes announced for the Google Reader?

Changes announced for Google Reader has upset Iranian users because, as you can see, Google Reader is the most popular site in Iran, only second to the USA. (via http://www.appappeal.com/maps/google-reader/)

Google Reader had helped Iranians to form their social networks undisturbed by censoring and filtering imposed by the undemocratic government.

Many of users have decided, very reluctantly I should say, to move to Google+ but, as I gather from them, what bothers them most is that posts sent to Google+ streams via links do not include the full post, contrary to Google Reader which had the full post in each entry. This means that if the referred site is filtered they would be unable to access it.

Iranian users have used Google Reader both as an enlightenment tool and as a social networking medium. It would be good if Google found a way to facilitate Iranian users's access to filtered sites as in Google Reader.
